Bario, Kelabit Highlands

Bario is a small village located in the centre of
Kelabit Highlands in the north east of Sarawak.

To go to Bario from Kuching, you need to take
one hour flight from Kuching to Miri, then

take another 55 mins flight from Miri to Bario.

This is the small MAS wings plane going to Bario,

around 19 persons per flight only.

After entered the plane, we can see directly into the pilot seats.

The space inside the plane is narrow but quite comfortable

The cool climate in Bario is approximately 20°C just like an air-con room.

During night time, everyone must sleep warm with a blanket.

Bario famous in Bario rice and juicy pineapples.
June till Sept is the paddy planting season in Bario,

because raining season at that periods.

Some of them eat pineapple as dessert 

Some of them cook pineapples with curry, as one of their dishes

One year ago, Bario road is full of muddy but

now they build a cement road already

of course come road still remain muddy

There are some flowers and

the famous Nepenthes (Monkey Cup) can be found in Pa Umor bush.

Bario is a very nice place for us to experience the village culture and

also to feel the nature atmosphere.

Bah Kut Teh @ Go Fun Kee Cafe

We have our lunch at "Go Fun Kee" Cafe (吴方记)

This Cafe is famous in "Bah Kut Teh" and 3 Color Pudding.

Hari Raya Home Visits

On 30th August, we went to Farina and Lily's house for Raya visits,

they served us kuih raya and other tit bits.

In Sarawak, the main desserts that they served during new years

is the famous kuih-lapis (layer cake),

regardless of Chinese New Year or Hari Raya or Hari Gawai.

Pistachio, Kuih Lapis, Pineapple Tarts, and Satay.

Fondants with watermelon looks, again kuih lapis, and parch Persimmon.

Home-made kuih and cookies.

Cashew nuts and some tit bits

Keropok with "ah zha" (mix vege sambal).

Curry Beef, Ayam masak merah, Lamb and nasi pulut.

Again ayam masak merah, mix vege, beef and rice.

All foods are very delicious and I hope next year can have Raya visits again,

since we can eat the ayam masak merah only during Hari Raya, haha...

Flowers Everywhere

All this while, I never notice that our surrounding is actually

covered by the nature beauty of flowers.

One day, my friends and I went for "Hari Raya" home visits, and

along the way to home visits,

I notices that there are different kind of flowers at the roadside.

which attracted me very much, and there are unique for me

although I don't know how to call them.

This is Marigold, I think

This flower have 3 types of color, purple

This flower have dewdrop on it petals, nice !!

I'm not sure this is the nature petal arrangement for this flower

or being eaten by insects.

I shoot all these flowers at the same places and

it took me around half an hour to finish the snapshots.

I saw them for the very first time in my life,

how grace to have them in our life,

to cheer up our life and nature look.

Portuguese Egg Tarts

Portuguese Egg Tart that selling at Bakers' Talk is the best that I had tried,

which is recommended by my friend.

We bought these egg tarts at Bakers' Talk in Kuching, indeed there are many more branches at different states.

The crust pastry is so crispy and flaky,

and the creamy and shiny gold color custard is soft and dissolved easily,

so yummy =>

I am willing to replace my daily meals with this custard tart !!
